Hard and smooth, like a path stomped flat by lots of feet. Watch what happens when water lands on it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e(Tilt the plate a little. Pour one spoonful of water on it.)\u003c\/em\u003e It just sits on top. It can't soak in.
