How the BSB compares to the NIV and ESV

If your church reads the NIV or the ESV, the BSB will sound familiar. It stays close to the wording of the original languages, much like the English Standard Version (ESV), and it reads in plain, natural sentences, much like the New International Version (NIV). John 3:16, Psalm 23 and the other verses children learn first are only a word or two different. The big difference is permission. The NIV and ESV are under copyright, which limits how much a church can reprint. The BSB is free for anyone to copy. If your class memorizes from another translation, use the references on the cards as your list and read each verse from your own Bible.
