Psalm 51 reminds us that sin messes things up, and only God can cleanse us. We all fall short and are unclean, and when we realize that we should come humbly before the Lord for salvation. When we do, He promises to thoroughly wash us and make us white as snow! We can’t fix ourselves and need Christ’s blood to clean us on the inside.

We are all born sinful and unclean. Only God can cleanse us from the inside out and make our hearts new. There’s nothing we can do to free or save ourselves, but we recognize that the blood of Christ washes our guilt away. Psalm 51 was written before the birth of Jesus but emphasizes how God knows us and has mercy on us. For us today, we celebrate that God can and does remove our sins, and that through His Son, He makes us a new and beloved creation.

Thoroughly enjoyed this Clean Heart lesson!

Thanks for coming up with such a wonderful lesson with Ps 51. My messy idea, which the kiddos really got a kick out of, was charcoal art. We all got completely disgusting drawing hearts on cardstock with charcoal & shading with our fingers, resulting in a great mess to start the lesson. Love the experiment with vinegar & pennies! With the beautiful coloring pages & fun word search, this lesson can easily be stretched into two or three weeks.

Create in me a clean heart, O Lord

I have the princely total of 4 members of my Sunday school class, ranging in age from 7 - 15 years old. Taught this lesson today. the children were attentive. but somewhat embarrassed by the story of King David! However, we persevered and they heard me out. They concentrated really heard with the craft and enjoyed the activity. Really worthwhile lesson. Even the mums who sat in were moved. Our God is an awesome God! Thank you for this well thought-out lesson. I'm so, so grateful for these lessons! God bless you!

Looking forward to using this.

We will be studying some of the Psalms later this year. This will fit nicely into that unit!
