How can words be delicious? What does it mean that God’s law is sweet? This message focuses on the memorable passage of Psalm 119, which celebrates meditating on God’s Words and using the Bible as a primary guide.

We sometimes think of law in a negative connotation, as a strict set of rules that condemns us, takes away fun things, and goes against the good news of God’s grace and Gospel. In this passage, though, the psalmist rejoices in meditating on the sweetness and goodness of God’s law. There are wonderful blessings that come from the law: it keeps us safe, helps us follow the Lord, and reminds us of our need for Jesus. The greatest and “sweetest” joy we have comes from reading and knowing the message of the Bible.

Great little lesson

I was able to use this with my mixed age class (9 years down to 3 years old). This reading was being used during the church service, so the children were doing something that fitted with what was being preached in church.
In New Zealand, downunder, we only have Cherios in special shops, but we do have Nutrigrain cereal, which are ovals with little holes along them. Most people don't have them for breakfast because they are too sweet! We made Nutrigrain necklaces as our "Sweeter than honey" craft. Thanks for the ideas.

The lesson was very flexible in that I had a group ranging from 3-9 and I could have used to to minister to everyone.
