A piece of clay takes on a beautiful shape and appearance, but only after patience and effort on the part of the potter. This lesson describes how we are like lumps of clay, but in God’s hands, we can be used in amazing ways. Focusing on the Old Testament lesson for the first week of Advent, children will hear how the prophet Isaiah spoke of Jesus many years before His coming. As the people then had patience and hopefully awaited a Messiah, we can patiently trust and hope that God is working in us and giving us great blessings!

 God fulfills His promises to us, even if it sometimes requires patient waiting. As we look at Old Testament prophecies, we note that Jesus did everything that was said about Him before His coming. The most important thing He did was die for our sins, which gives us salvation and hope! As we remember through the Advent season, this passage also teaches how God works in our lives as individuals. He will use us in remarkable ways when we make ourselves available to Him and rely on Him. It might take patience and enduring tough times, but He can take our lives and make us into something new and amazing!

Passage: Isaiah 64:1-9

Target Audience: Kindergarten-6th grade 

Materials Needed: Construction paper; decorative supplies; glue; markers or crayons; tape; scissors; paper towel tubes; Styrofoam cups; flour, water, salt, cornstarch, vegetable oil, and mixing tools; play-doh or clay; Bibles.
