A Christmas play for kids that tells the birth of Jesus as part of the whole Bible story. Two scientists give a presentation that starts at Creation and follows the promise of a Savior through Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham and David, on to the nativity: Mary and Gabriel, Zacharias and Elizabeth, Joseph, the shepherds, and Simeon and Anna in the temple. Children's ministry leaders in small churches use it as a Christmas program because only the two scientists and the Bible Readers speak. Free printable PDF, 14 pages, in English.

What's in the PDF

  • The full script in 12 short sections, with the speaker at the left and stage directions in italics.
  • 26 Scripture readings printed in full with their references, from Genesis, Matthew, Luke, John, Acts, Galatians and 1 Peter (New American Standard Bible).
  • A cast list: two scientists, one or more Readers, and 13 walk-on Bible characters with no lines to learn, plus shepherds, angels and seven Days of Creation sign holders.
  • How to run it: who needs a script and where to hide it (a clipboard for the scientists, a Bible for the Readers).
  • The short props list: two lab coats, two clipboards, a Bible for each Reader, the Days of Creation signs and one chart shown on a screen.
  • The six songs in order, with the full words to the 7 Days of Creation song, sung to the tune of The Twelve Days of Christmas.

Who it is for

Sunday school teachers, children's church leaders and small churches planning a Christmas program without weeks of line practice. Every child can have a part: the Bible characters walk on, are seen, and walk off while the scientists and Readers tell the story. With one child for each part and each sign it uses about 26 children, and a smaller group can double up.

Is this an easy Christmas play for a small church?

Yes. The scientists read from clipboards and the Readers read from an open Bible, so no one has to memorize lines. The only costumes the script names are two lab coats. The songs are ones most churches already know: Arky Arky, Trust and Obey, Only a Boy Named David, Silent Night and Joy to the World.
