God calls and equips us to do His work, enabling us to do what would otherwise be impossible. He is awesome and holy, and will help us through whatever we need. This lesson includes some surprising instructions that children would not be able to follow without help from an adult. Through that example and others, kids will understand that there are things we cannot do on our own, but we receive help from the Lord. The focus story is the call of Moses, and students will see how God came in a surprising form with some alarming, but not altogether impossible directions. 

God’s presence was so powerful and holy that Moses had to remove his shoes to even stand near, and saw not the face of the Lord, but a fiery bush. Yet God revealed Himself to His servant, even giving Moses His name to speak to the people. God also demonstrated patience and compassion, assuring Moses that He would help him and provide all he needed to carry the messages to the people. Many years later, the “I am” name is spoken by God’s Son Jesus. In Christ, we see the image of that powerful invisible God, living and dying for our sake. 

Passage: Exodus 3:1-15

Target Audience: Kindergarten-6th grade 

Materials Needed: Construction paper; decorative supplies; glue; markers or crayons; tape; scissors; cups; tissue or crepe paper; candles; lighters; paper towel tubes; Bibles.
