Lesson 1: Create

Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” (Genesis 1:26 NLT)

Lesson one of the "Christian Cool" curriculum, titled "CREATE", begins with a guiding scripture from Genesis 1:26, emphasizing the concept of humans being created in God’s image to reign over earth's creatures. The lesson is structured to inspire creativity among children, correlating with the divine attribute of being creators themselves. Activities include using Play-Doh or Legos to construct a village or community, which not only makes the lesson interactive but also visually demonstrates the theme of creation. The discussion focuses on understanding creation, both divine and human, and encourages children to think about their creative capacities and responsibilities.

Lesson Components and Implementation

Each lesson is thoughtfully equipped with supplies lists, prayers, and craft instructions, which facilitate an engaging learning environment. For instance, the supply list for "CREATE" includes simple items like votive candles, Play-Doh, and crayons, making it accessible and easy to prepare. The prayer segment aims to set a reflective tone, enhancing the spiritual experience by lighting candles, symbolizing Jesus as the light of the world. This part of the lesson is designed to make children feel calm and focused, ready to delve into the creative activities planned.

Educational and Spiritual Outcomes

The educational approach is comprehensive, incorporating activities that develop both the mind and spirit. Children are guided through scripture reading and encouraged to engage in discussions that challenge them to apply biblical lessons to their own lives. The craft activity, involving drawing or painting scenes from the scripture reading, serves as a creative outlet and a recapitulation of the lesson, reinforcing the theme through art. This method ensures that the spiritual lessons are not only heard but also internalized through creative expression and reflection.
